Five Canadian provinces have extended invitations to candidates through their Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP), affirming their role in selecting individuals best suited to integrate into the regional economies. These provincial immigration draw significantly strengthen candidates’ applications for permanent residency.
Provincial Immigration Overview:
All provinces and territories, except Quebec and Nunavut, operate PNPs. These programs allow provincial governments to nominate candidates, enhancing their prospects for permanent residency.
Immigration Minister Marc Miller recently met with provincial counterparts to discuss shared priorities. Topics included reducing duplication in federal-provincial immigration programs, streamlining foreign credential recognition, and addressing housing, infrastructure, and social services pressures.
Provincial Highlights (November 25 – December 1):
Ontario:
- Conducted a draw for the Express Entry Human Capital Priorities stream on November 30.
- Invited 1,052 Express Entry candidates in healthcare occupations.
- Eligible candidates must demonstrate intent to live in Ontario after obtaining permanent resident status.
British Columbia (BC):
- Conducted four draws on November 28.
- General draw invited 80 candidates in various streams.
- Targeted draws for Early Childhood Educators, Construction occupations, and Healthcare occupations.
- Another set of draws on November 21 included candidates in tech, Early Childhood Education, construction, and healthcare occupations.
Quebec:
- Invited 1,210 candidates on November 16.
- No specific occupations targeted, requiring a minimum score of 609.
- Proficiency in French (level 7 oral proficiency or higher) is mandatory.
Manitoba:
- Conducted a draw on November 30.
- Invited 148 candidates in the Skilled Worker stream with close relatives in Manitoba.
- Also invited 82 candidates in the International Education Stream and 38 Skilled Workers Overseas candidates.
Prince Edward Island (PEI):
- Invited 69 candidates through the Labour and Express Entry stream on November 30.
- Invitations issued to candidates in healthcare, manufacturing, food processing, and construction sectors.
- Over the past 12 months, PEI has invited 2,528 candidates through this stream.
